A collection of twenty-one stories divided into three sections: 'Speaks,' 'Narrates,' and 'He Bids Farewell.' Stories range from a man obsessed with waterfalls lost in Shanghai's winding streets, to an encounter with Buddha on the Ganges, to a Portuguese child laborer entering a surreal realm. Krasznahorkai describes each text as 'drawing our attention away from this world, speeding our body toward annihilation.' Shortlisted for the 2018 Man Booker International Prize. Translated by John Batki, Ottilie Mulzet, and George Szirtes.
